Areas in Central Luzon are still submerged in floodwaters since 3 September due to the combined effects of Typhoon ‘Enteng’ and the southwest monsoon rains or ‘Habagat,’ the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.
A total of 273 areas in the said region including Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Nueva Ecija and Zambales still have floodwaters measuring one to five-feet deep due to heavy rains. Ilocos region reported 42 flooded areas, including La Union and Dagupan, Pangasinan.
In total, there are still 318 flooded areas in the country due to the recent typhoon. The number of casualties, meanwhile, stood at 20.
According to the latest situation report from the NDRRMC, fatalities have been reported in the following: Calabarzon (11), Bicol (4), Central Visayas (2), Eastern Visayas (2) and Western Visayas (1). The figures are still subject for validation.
The NDRRMC also noted that 22 individuals were injured, with two cases confirmed, and 26 people remain missing.
Overall, 2,553,203 people or 714,360 families have been affected by ‘Enteng’ and Habagat across various regions, including Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Metro Manila. Bicol was the hardest hit with 1,164,155 individuals affected.
Estimated damage to agriculture cost P658,997,396 and P698,901,168 to infrastructure. At least 7,129 households were partially damaged by the storm while 493 were completely destroyed.
