VIGAN CITY, Philippines — Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis Chavit Singson confirmed on Friday that he will run for senator in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
Singson said in an interview over Bombo Radyo here that he was convinced to seek a senatorial post upon the endorsement of former president Duterte and members of the League of Governors in the Philippines.
“It is an honor to be endorsed by former president Duterte. I thank him for the trust,” said Singson who earlier declared that he is not running in next year’s polls.
If elected, the former governor said he would focus on establishing a seaport economic zone and on uplifting the lives of Filipinos.
He also wants to propose a law that would provide every Filipino a unified card for easy access in bank transactions, including making deposits and withdrawals without personally going to a bank. Singson, an ally of President Marcos, said 77 percent of Filipinos have no bank accounts.
