The Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM), in partnership with the Civil Military Operations Unit-Western Mindanao (CMOU-WM) organized an educational tour for the children of former rebels over the weekend.
The two-day educational tour “Lakbay Aral Para sa Kapayapaan 2024”is designed to offer children of former rebel returnees and selected youth from Tawi-Tawi new perspectives on peace and opportunities.
NFWM Public Affairs Officer Lieutenant Chester Cabaltera said that the event began with a symposium on the role of education in fostering peace and prosperity.
Col. Jonathan C. Gabor PN(M)(GSC), Deputy Commander for Marine Operations at NFWM, delivered a keynote speech about a child rescued from violence through education and community support.
Participants received school supplies, grocery packs, and essential items, and even toured the BRP Laurence Narag (PG907) to gain insights into naval life.
On the second day, the children explored Zamboanga City, visited ZC E&L Canning Corporation, Jollibee, and Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology.
They also visited the Rainbow Masjid and Abong-Abong Mosque, and enjoyed a special dinner with stakeholders – enhancing their understanding of culture, peace, and community.
