A TELEVISION program focusing on education has been filmed in different universities across the Philippines as part of the Chinese Government’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The program, “TOP Leads,” is produced by Qingdao Broadcasting System and is hosted by Dr. Sean Dong, the chairman of the Qingdao TOP International Education and Information Technology Co. Ltd. (Topedu). It showcases programs and courses offered by the different schools and colleges in China.

As part of its international expansion for the “Belt and Road Union of 20 Nations for Advance Personnel Development” or U20, “TOP Leads” has featured universities in these countries.

The five schools across the country chosen by the program were Emilio Aguinaldo College, Philippine Women’s University, World Citi College, Adventist University of the Philippines in Cavite, and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. Footage of Dong and school officials who are part of the U20 were also shown.

During a press conference at the EAC on Friday, Dong said that the visits enabled “deep exchanges” with the participating schools, especially in carrying out international cooperation, and formed a high degree of cooperation consensus.

“We will continue to promote international education exchanges and collaboration in a wider range of fields between China and the Philippines, and inject strong impact into the construction of a community of a shared future for international education between China and the Philippines,” Dong told The Manila Times through an interpreter.

EAC President Dr. Jose Paulo Campos said that linkages with other institutions in other countries were “critical” for building a future for the next generation and that he was glad to collaborate with Topedu to promote the U20.

“We hope to develop this partnership not just with the intermediary but perhaps, in the future, we will get the institutions that are part of the U20 alliance…. They have come here to the Philippines to bring awareness and information and knowledge about institutions in the Philippines to the other members of the U20,” Campos said.

Campos added that it was “time” to link up with fellow Asian countries and institutions aside from Western institutions.

The partnership is set to explore other possible opportunities for exchange, such as a faculty exchange program and the creation of “Ban Mo Institute,” or a vocational school fostered on the philosophies of two Chinese teachers: Lu Ban or the “master of craftsmanship,” and Mo zi or the “master of Chinese Science.”
