The Police Regional Office 11 shrugged off allegations that it was tampering with evidence as it continued its operation to serve the arrest warrant against Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy in Davao City.
PRO 11 spokesperson Police Major Catherine dela Rey said the accusation that cops were planting evidence in the KOJC compound has no basis and was only meant to taint their image, based on a Super Radyo dzBB report of Christian Maño on Sunday morning.
She said that scanning the equipment that cops use in the operation, as what the KOJC members want, will just make the process more difficult.
It could be recalled that tensions ensued earlier after police brought a “blue box” into the compound. Some KOJC members protested the move, saying the box did not undergo an X-ray scanner to determine what it was for.
Inside the cathedral, police deployed a life and motion tracer, life detector equipment and a proton elicit device. The various gear can all detect vital signs of people, movement and voices and are generally used in search and rescue operations.
On Thursday, authorities said they discovered “secret hallways” inside the compound cathedral. However, one of their ministers denied the existence of such and explained that the hallway connected the backstage to the main stage.
Dela Rey also denied allegations that the police have established a command center in a part of the cathedral.
The PRO 11 also maintained that the police measures inside the compound are only intended to ensure security in the area and to enforce the law while the operation continues to find Quiboloy and four others being sought for various alleged crimes.
GMA News Online reached out to the legal counsel of Quiboloy for comment, and will update this story once they respond.
Quiboloy is facing charges under Section 5(b) of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act and under Section 10(a) of the same act.
The KOJC leader is also facing a non-bailable qualified human trafficking charge under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended, before a Pasig court.
