The death threats against dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo were relayed through her family and associates, her lawyer said Friday.
“May ganung threats through friends and close family, Merong ganun…Wala (siyang natanggap mismo) kasi at that time limited naman ang circle niya,” Atty. Stephen David, Guo’s legal counsel, said in a phone interview with the media.
(There were threats sent through friends and close family. She personally did not receive it because at that time her circle was limited.)
“So ang threats nanggagaling sa mga close friends niya at ‘yung mga associates niya na pinararating sa kanya,” he added.
(The threats were relayed to her by her friends and associates.)
In a video posted on Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos’ Facebook account, Guo was heard saying, “Sec, patulong. May death threat po kasi ako (Sec, help me. There’s a death threat against me).”
According to David, the alleged threats were connected to the investigation into Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
“’Yun nga, ‘yung threat, na patatahimikin siya para walang imbestigasyon sa POGO. Yung ganun,” the lawyer said.
(The threat was she will be silenced to end the investigation on POGOs.)
Earlier, Abalos said Guo told him that she fled the Philippines because she feared for her life.
Last August, Senator Risa Hontiveros revealed information that Guo left the country in July despite being on an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order.
