MANILA, Philippines — Aspiring overseas Filipino workers should be wary of illegal recruiters on social media and other online platforms, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) warned the public on Saturday.

“Verify if the recruitment agency and its agents are licensed to ensure that their promise of work abroad is real,” the DMW said.

Fake overseas job postings on social media must be reported to the DMW Migrant Workers Protection Bureau.

The DMW has assisted almost 20,000 victims of illegal recruitment and human trafficking.

“As of August, we have closed 14 establishments due to illegal recruitment,” Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac said.
