Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been investigating claims that dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is offering cash in exchange for help.

In an ambush interview, Remulla said that the DOJ has long been pursuing the allegations made by former Senator Panfilo Lacson.

“We’re aware that there’s more to it than meets the eye,” the secretary said.

Lawyer Stephen David, Guo’s legal counsel, said the investigation is “very welcome.”

“Para malaman natin ang katotohanan,” he told reporters.

Remulla said he believed that billions of cash were being used to help Guo.

“I have no idea but I guess it would be in the billions. Maraming— marami siyang support eh. Talagang— ewan ko kung saan nanggagaling ‘yan,” he said.

In a radio interview, Lacson previously said that he has a Filipino-Chinese friend who was allegedly offered P1 billion by Guo.

He said the Filipino-Chinese businessman had “connections within the circle of the first family.”

“Si Alice Guo nag approach sa kanya, nung bago umalis, no, nung medyo ipit na ipit na at nagtatago na ‘yata. Medyo kumontak sa kanya through a common friend siguro. At ang sabi sa kanya kung malalapit niya si Alice Guo sa kanyang contact,” he said.

As proof, he said his friend showed a photo of him with Guo.

According to Remulla, Guo’s movements were “very sophisticated.”

“Malalim siya eh, malalim ang kanyang laro. Very sophisticated ang laro niya, maybe she’s just extremely talented pero hindi siya ordinary felon,” he said.

An official of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), which conducted the raid on the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator hub in Guo’s locality, also said that they received feelers even before the raid.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
