MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) yesterday asked government workers to help save lives by participating in the nationwide bloodletting drive on Sept. 12.

The event, dubbed “Dugtong Buhay, Handog ng Lingkod Bayan,” will be conducted by the CSC in coordination with the Department of Health Philippine Blood Center as well as Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium.

The bloodletting activity is part of the 124th celebration of the Philippine Civil Service anniversary.

CSC Chairman Karlo Nograles called on national and local government agencies to support the event.

“As we celebrate another year of public service, we are calling on government agencies, along with their employees, to participate in this event, which is a show of concern for our fellow men,” Nograles said.

“Your voluntary act of donating blood for the medical needs of others is also a form of public service. It shows that you value life,” he added.

In the National Capital Region, the bloodletting drive will be held at the CSC central office in Batasan Hills and at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau building, both in Quezon City.

The venues of the bloodletting activity in the regions are posted on the Facebook pages of the CSC regional offices.

Blood donors will be screened to ensure that they are fit to donate, the CSC said.
