A married couple was robbed and stabbed by their trusted driver in Cavite, with the female victim subsequently dying from her injuries.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras,” at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Marlon and Charie Cantuba traveled from Candaba, Pampanga to Naic, Cavite to pick up frozen meat products, which they sell.

The couple traveled with their driver, Jomar Domingo Tambo, who had insisted on driving them to a place where they could get cheap products.

“Siya na raw bahala sa transaksyon, basta sasama lang sila at dala ang pera.  Nag-alok siya sa mababang halaga, bilang negosyante, gustong subukan at  i-grab ng mag asawa,” said the victims’ cousin Jolo.

(He said he would take care of the transaction, as long as they came with the money. He offered a low price. As a businessman, the couple  wanted to try and grab it.)

When they arrived in the town of Naic, Tambo allegedly stopped in a remote area to relieve himself and this was where the crime allegedly took place.

Tambo allegedly stabbed Marlon first. Though Marlon fell, he managed to get up and tried to save his wife.

“Pinilit niya po salagin yung panaksak, pero talagang napuruhan si Ate Charie,” Jolo said.

(He tried to stop the stabbing, but Ate Charie was badly injured.)

Charie was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the throat, but she unfortunately died. Marlon, meanwhile, was in stable condition.

The police recovered the kitchen knife used in the crime while Tambo managed to flee with the victims’ P3 million in cash.

“Based doon sa backtracking namin sir, ‘yung suspek is nagpahatid sa highway,  going to Manila or going to Pampanga. Ongoing pa rin po ang lahat ng  mga backtracking ng CCTV,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Ericson Nato,  Naic Chief of Police.

(Based on our backtracking sir, the suspect traveled to the highway, going to Manila or going to Pampanga,  all the CCTV backtracking is still ongoing.)

“Baka po may  nakakakilala sa kaniya, magbigay ng info, ipagbigay alam lamang sa  pulisya. Hindi namin habol dito ang pera, ang gusto namin hustisya,”  said Jolo.

(Maybe someone knows him, and wants to give info, just let the police know. We’re not after the money, we want justice.)

He called on the suspect to talk to them and discuss what happened.

“Baka nabigla ka lang, dala ng personal na pangangailangan, eh, puede naman  pag usapan ito. Willing kami magpatawad, gusto lang namin malinawan ang  lahat,” Jolo said.

(Maybe this is a spur-of-the-moment thing, driven by personal needs. We can talk about it. We’re willing to forgive. We just want to clear everything up.) — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
