MANILA, Philippines — As “Enteng” intensified into a severe tropical storm, Signal No. 1 remained up over at least four provinces in Northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
Under Signal No. 1 are Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, the northern portion of La Union (Luna, Santol, San Juan, Bagulin, Bangar, San Gabriel, Bacnotan, Sudipen, Balaoan and City of San Fernando) and Abra.
Pagasa said in its 5 p.m. bulletin that Enteng packed maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115kph.
Moving westward at 10kph, the severe tropical storm was estimated some 165kms west-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, the state weather bureau said.
Based on Pagasa’s track forecast, Enteng would exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday morning.
It may become a typhoon once outside PAR on Thursday and is forecast.
to make landfall in the vicinity of southern mainland China during the weekend, the state-run weather agency said.
Pagasa administrator Nathaniel Servando told The Manila Times that an enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” would continue to bring rains and thunderstorms in most parts of the country in the coming days.
