Senate President Francis ”Chiz” Escudero said that the Marcos administration’s priority bills would be tackled before lawmakers go on a break at the end of the month.
In a radio interview on Saturday, Escudero said that they were able to tackle 7 to 8 bills endorsed by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC).
This made him confident that the Senate would be able to finish the remaining bills within the 9 remaining session days.
Escudero did not identify them.
“Konti na lamang naman ‘yung naiiwan at siguro mga tatlo o apat pa dun sa mga LEDAC certified bills ang mahahabol namin bago mag-adjourn ang Kongreso itong Setyembre,” he said.
(There’s only a few left, and maybe three or four of the LEDAC bills could be tackled before Congress adjourns sessions this September.)
Both the Senate and House of Representatives will have their last session day on September 27. Sessions will resume on November 4.
In June, the LEDAC agreed to prioritize the passage of 28 bills within the 19th Congress or by June 2025, including the Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act, amendments to the Right-of-Way Act, excise tax on single-use plastics, rationalization of the mining fiscal regime, VAT on digital services, and the creation of the Department of Water Resources. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
