GOOGLE has taken another significant step toward its renewable energy goals by signing a long-term agreement with Energix Renewables, a US-based energy supplier.
In a recent report by Hana Anandira for Mobile World Live posted that “this deal, which will initially involve the development of 1.5 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar projects through 2030, reflects Google’s commitment to powering its data centers, including those dedicated to AI applications, with clean energy.”
Energix will provide Google with electricity and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from its solar projects, while Google will contribute tax equity, aligning with the US government’s Inflation Reduction Act. This act incentivizes the development of clean energy projects across the country.
“The importance of such collaborations as Google strives to operate on 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030,” said Amanda Corio, Google’s global head of data center energy. “This partnership marks a transformative move for both companies and highlights the growing importance of clean energy in powering the technology industry’s expansion, particularly in AI and data centers.”
In addition to this deal, Google is also expanding its renewable energy initiatives in other regions, such as Finland and the Netherlands, where it is deploying solar panels and utilizing excess heat from data centers to warm local buildings. These efforts are part of Google’s broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions for its global operations by 2030.
