MANILA, Philippines — Gerald Anderson is one proud boyfriend as he described his girlfriend of five years, Julia Barretto, as one of the best among her peers.
The actor entertained questions from the press after the special announcement of his new ABS-CBN show “Nobody” last week.
“Para sa akin, she’s one of the best, if not the best, sa generation niya at marami pa siyang ipapakita sa inyo,” the actor said.
He was asked for his reaction to the positive box-office performance of “UnHappy For You,” the reunion movie of Julia with her ex-boyfriend Joshua Garcia.
The actor continued, “So proud of her. Pinaghirapan niya ‘yun. I haven’t seen it pero sobrang galing daw niya.”
The actor went on to claim that the Philippines has the best actors in the world, pointing out the challenges the local film industry constantly faces. These include budget constraints and time management.
“Ang gandang ibig sabihin para sa industriya, right? Bumabalik ba ang mga tao sa sinehan. It’s a challenge for everyone kasi we have to keep producing good projects, quality projects. At pinapakita natin na ‘pag gawa ng Pinoy, papanoorin pa rin ‘yan, ‘di ba?” Gerald said.
There are only a handful of major studio outfits and the films they produce are not as many as a dozen in a year, while many TV shows are made “shoot-to-air,” meaning, scenes shot are almost always airing within the day or hours after editing.
“Lagi kong sinasabi ito. I think we have the best actors in the world. Kasi nga given the situation, budget-wise, siyempre, hindi naman kasing laki ng budget natin compared sa ibang bansa. Oras, for airing. Laging for airing, but we always produce. Galing ‘no?” he said.
