MANILA, Philippines — The family drama “Her Locket,” directed by J.E. Tiglao and starring producer-lead actress Rebecca Chuaunsu and Elora Españo, emerged as the biggest winner at the sixth edition of the Sinag Maynila Film Festival.

The Gabi ng Parangal ceremony was held Sunday night at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.

“Her Locket” won Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Tiglao, Best Actress for Chuaunsu, Best Supporting Actress for Españo, Best Production Design for James Rosendal, Best Cinematography for Jag Concepcion, and Best Ensemble Acting.

Sheron Dayoc’s social drama “The Gospel of the Beast,” meanwhile, took home the Best Actor trophy for Ronnie Lazaro and Best Supporting Actor award for Jansen Magpusao.

Bryan Wong’s action-themed flick “Banjo” was named Best Editing, while Alvin Yapan’s thriller “Talahib (Legend of the Tall Grass)” was given the People’s Choice Award.

Sinag Maynila filmfest is founded by Solar Entertainment president Wilson Tieng and Cannes-winning director Brillante Mendoza.

In the short film category, Gayle Oblea’s “As the Moth Flies,” which tackles about mental illness, was presented with Best Short Film award, followed by Kyd Torato’s “Bisan Abo Wala Bilin (Even Ashes, Nothing Remains)” and Franky Arrocena’s “Ang Maniniyot ni Papa Jisos (Father Jisos’ Photographer)” at second and third spots, respectively.

Ranniel Semana’s “Ino” was cited Best Documentary, while Jenina Denise’s “Pag-Ibig Ang Mananaig” (Love Will Prevail) and Chuck Escasa’s “Ghosts of Kalantiaw” received the Jury Prize under the documentary section.

The awards night celebrated the film festival’s return after a four-year hiatus. Still ongoing in select cinemas, the filmfest was founded by Solar Entertainment president Wilson Tieng and Cannes-winning director Brillante Mendoza.

The Sinag Maynila 2024 is supported by the City of Manila, Department of Tourism, Culture & Arts Office of Manila (DTCAM), the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
