House panel cites Alice Guo in contempt

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE) The House of Representatives' quad committee cited former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo in contempt and ordered her detention until it ends its investigation into the Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).Abang Lingkod Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano filed the motion after he accused Guo of allegedly lying about why she had not posted bail. During the House hearing on Thursday, Paduano, chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts, which is part of the quad panel, asked Guo why she had not posted bail.He said, “P180,000 and then you didn't bail out?” Guo said in Filipino that there were other contempt cases. Two counts of graft were filed against Guo before a court in Tarlac. Bail was set at P90,000 for each case—a total of P180,000. These cases were transferred to the Valenzuela Regional Trial Court.The committee also approved a motion by Paduano to petition the Valenzuela RTC Branch 282 for the transfer of Guo to the House from the Philippine National Police (PNP) where she has been detained following her arrest in Indonesia.Santa Rosa City Rep. Dan Fernandez, chairman of the Committee on Public Order and Safety which is part of the quad panel, said however that he received word from the House sergeant-at-arms that their detention facility was full.
