Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday said that Duanren Wu, who is being linked to the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) firm Lucky South 99 in Porac, Pampanga, has left the country.
“Apparently, Mr. Duanren Wu left the country last June 11 of this year. Mr. Duanren at the same time with Cassandra Li Ong. We don’t have any records of that person coming back to the Philippines,” Gatchalian said during a Senate hearing.
He issued the remark after Senator Joel Villanueva moved to issue a subpoena against Wu, saying his name has repeatedly come up in Senate hearings.
Wu is an incorporator of the Whirlwind Corp, which leases the land where the Lucky South 99 compound is located.
Cassandra “Cassie” Li Ong, the authorized representative of the Lucky South 99, previously said that Wu was her godfather and also served as his translator during a House hearing.
The Senate in July issued a subpoena against Wu.
“Inimbita natin siya, itong si Mr. Wu Duanren early, one of the early hearings. Kaya lang wala rin tayong makuhang address niya dito sa Pilipinas,” Senator Risa Hontiveros said.
Meanwhile, Villanueva questioned Shiela Guo, the purported sister of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, on a trip to Taipei with Wu, Alice Guo, and two assistants.
Shiela Guo said she was not sure if it was Wu but that it was “Cassie’s godfather.”
For her part, Alice Guo said the trip was during Chinese New Year for a vacation.
“Wala po akong relasyon sa kanya pero mag i-invest po dapat siya sa Bamban (I have no relation with him but he was supposed to invest in Bamban),” she said.
Alice Guo said that she met Wu through Ong.
Ong and Shiela Guo were about to depart Batam, Indonesia when they were apprehended by Indonesian authorities in August. They were flown back to the Philippines on the same day.
Meanwhile, Alice Guo, who is wanted in the Philippines in connection with several criminal complaints, was nabbed by Indonesian authorities in Tangerang City on Wednesday last week.
