A SOUTH Korean man wanted in his country for embezzling over $1 million is facing deportation after his arrest in Manila.
The Korean, 56, was arrested on Thursday inside the Bureau of Immigration (BI) headquarters in Intramuros while his passport was being processed, according to the agency’s press release Saturday.
Further, the BI said that the foreigner has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Seoul Jungang District Prosecutor’s Office in 2021 for aggravated punishment and economic crimes in his home country.
His name was placed in the Interpol red notice for allegedly embezzling over $1 million through loan applications.
The Korean is detained at the BI facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City, pending his deportation.
