FARMERS cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in La Union received more than P48.7 million worth of assistance in the form of machines, seeds and various farm inputs.
The assistance was distributed in Barangay Sapilang in Bacnotan on August 30 and included hand tractors with accessories, rice combine harvesters, four-wheel-drive tractors, pump and engine sets, multi-cultivators, knapsack sprayers, plastic crates, power sprayers, drums and solar-powered irrigation systems.
Funded under various banner programs and special projects of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO1), the assistance also included hybrid rice seeds for the dry season of 2024-2025, vegetable seeds and livestock feed, among others.

According to the DA-RFO1, the distribution was conducted in two batches. In the first batch, 20 FCAs and 11 local government units (LGUs) from La Union’s second district received interventions worth P27.032 million.
In his message, La Union Vice Gov. Mario Ortega, who was joined by Ramsey Mangaoang representing Rep. Dante Garcia, urged farmers to make the most of the assistance given to them.
Praising the importance of farmers’ groups, Ortega also highlighted that “we can make it easier to assist farmers through farmers’ cooperatives and associations.”
Meanwhile, the second batch of recipients, which were eight LGUs and 14 FCAs from La Union’s first district, received P21.71 million worth of agricultural support and interventions.
