MANILA, Philippines — Former vice president Leni Robredo went around Naga City on Sunday night after floods were reported in several areas due to Tropical Storm Enteng.
Photos uploaded on social media showed Robredo wading in floodwaters and coordinating response efforts through the Angat Buhay, the non-government organization she founded after the elections in 2022.
Youth organization Naguenyou, Angat Buhay’s partner in the city, distributed hot meals to evacuees.
Robredo called for more volunteers who would help prepare and distribute meals to residents displaced by the calamity.
She asked for in-kind donations such as food, medicine, bottled water, toiletries, blankets, hygiene kits and unused clothes and towels for the flood victims.
Earlier, Naga City Mayor Son Legacion suspended work and classes in anticipation of heavy rains.
Legacion also went around the city to visit the evacuees.He requested the city council to declare a state of emergency to allow the city government to access its calamity funds.
The funds will be used to provide relief assistance to flood victims.
