MANILA, Philippines — To protect motorists and commuters, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered a crackdown on overloaded public utility vehicles (PUVs) and trucks.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said the agency would conduct random anti-overloading inspections as frequently as possible.

During an operation on Wednesday, at least 13 overloaded vehicles were issued ticket violations by LTO personnel.

Mendoza said the anti-overloading operations would be implemented in Metro Manila and the provinces to ensure the safety of commuters.

“Several fatal accidents in the past were caused by overloading in PUVs,” he said.

LTO regional directors were ordered to submit regular reports of anti-overloading operations in their jurisdiction.
