MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday dismissed as “fake news” reports that he had a medical emergency.

The chief executive insisted he was in Malacañang attending to official business last Tuesday when news of him supposedly falling ill circulated online.

“I had a meeting in the morning, I had a command conference with some of our commanders, and I spent the rest of the day reading my briefs and doing paperwork,” he told reporters following a situational briefing at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in Camp Aguinaldo.

“I was just surprised when they said medical emergency,” he said.

Marcos strongly denied he was recently hospitalized nor was he afflicted with any kind of sickness and cautioned the public about instantly believing what they read or hear, especially from unverified sources.

“I’m here… That’s what you need to watch out for. Do I look sick? That’s what you need to guard, fake news such as that. Unless it comes from a credible source,” he said.

“I had so many friends call me asking if I’m okay. That’s plain foolishness. Well, it’s totally and completely fake. I do not even have a cold, I do not have anything wrong with me. I’m fine. Thank you for your concern,” he added.
