More than one third of the 310-strong House of Representatives now belong to the ruling party Lakas-CMD, the office of Speaker Martin Romualdez said Tuesday.
In a statement, the Speaker’s office said that there are now 109 Lakas-CMD members in the House after three representatives joined recently: Zamboanga del Sur’s Victoria Yu, formerly PDP-Laban; ex-Nacionalista Party member Raul Tupas of Iloilo; and Bukidnon’s Jose Manuel Alba, who had come from the Bukidnon Paglaum Party.
“Their affiliation widens support in Congress and the grassroots for President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. and his Agenda for Prosperity and Bagong Pilipinas programs,” Romualdez, the party’s president and Marcos’s cousin, said in a statement.
“I am sure that our new members share our and the President’s aspirations for a better life for our people and a more progressive Philippines,” he added.
Other lawmakers who recently joined Lakas-CMD include Luz Mercado of Southern Leyte, Ramon Nolasco Jr. of Cagayan and Belle Zamora of San Juan City.
Lakas-CMD held its national convention last Friday, with the Speaker telling the members that the party will be a part of a formidable and reform-oriented administration coalition for the May 2025 polls.
“In 2025, we are not just fielding candidates. We are shaping the future. Lakas-CMD is proud to join the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, a multi-party administration alliance that will bring forth a formidable 12-man senatorial slate, as well as candidates for provincial, congressional, and city and municipal positions,” Romualdez said.
