NDRRMC: 16 dead, 17 missing due to Enteng, Habagat

The reported death toll due to Tropical Cyclone Enteng and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat has increased to 16, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said eight of the total fatalities were reported in Calabarzon, three in the Bicol Region, two in Central Visayas, two in Eastern Visayas, and one in Western Visayas.

The NDRRMC noted that the reported deaths are still up for validation.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC added that 17 people were reported missing and 13 others were injured due to the impact of the inclement weather that caused floods and landslides in different parts of Luzon and the Visayas.

A total of 2,061,726 people or 538,602 families were affected by Enteng and Habagat in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Cordillera, and Metro Manila.

The Bicol Region has the most number of affected residents with 1,119,382.

Damage to infrastructure worth P223,602,718 and to agriculture worth P4,333,159 were reported. For irrigation facilities, a total of P1,080,000 worth of damage was reported.

A total of 5,965 houses were damaged — 5,858 partially and 107 totally.

Power outages, water supply problems, and communication line issues were encountered in different areas amid the onslaught of Enteng and Habagat.

Some passengers were stranded as some flights and sea trips were suspended due to the bad weather.

Classes and work schedules were also suspended in different cities and towns in the country.

A state of calamity was declared in Naga City, the entire province of Camarines Sur, and Allen town in Northern Samar.

Assistance worth P92,636,750 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.
