PCG: Over 3,300 stranded at seaports by Enteng

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday said more than 3,300 people are stranded in different seaports in the country due to Tropical Storm Enteng.

From 8 a.m. to 12 noon, a total of 3,383 passengers, truck drivers and cargo helpers were stranded in various ports in Southern Tagalog, Western Visayas, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas regions.

Most of those who are stranded were reported in Eastern Visayas with 1,966, followed by Bicol with 963, Western Visayas with 389, and Southern Tagalog with 65.

Also stranded were 47 vessels, 718 rolling cargoes, and three motor bancas. Meanwhile, 35 vessels and 16 motor bancas were taking shelter in other ports.

From 12:00 a.m. to 4 a.m. Monday, there were 2,413 people who were stranded in Southern Tagalog, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas.

Enteng was located 115 kilometers northeast of Infanta, Quezon or 85 km east southeast of Baler, Aurora, moving north northwestward at 15 km per hour as of 11 a.m.

The tropical cyclone was packing  maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

“Enteng is forecast to make landfall over Isabela or Cagayan this afternoon or evening, although a landfall over northern Aurora is not ruled out at this time,” PAGASA said.

The state weather bureau said Enteng is forecast to maintain tropical storm category until Tuesday during its traverse of mainland Northern Luzon.

“Further intensification is forecast to occur from Wednesday onwards, with ENTENG reaching severe tropical storm category on Wednesday and typhoon category on Friday,” it added.— RF, GMA Integrated News
