The Philippine Coast Guard is conducting a search and rescue operation after a woman reportedly drowned in Barangay Sampaga, Balayan, Batangas on Monday.
According to a statement on Tuesday, the 34-year-old female victim ran towards the river to cross and was swept away by the strong current.
Her partner, who did not cross as he was waiting for the currents to subside, was unable to save her.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station Balayan (CGSS), in coordination with the Balayan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, conducted a joint surface search, while the CGSS Balayan personnel, along with the Philippine National Police – Special Action Force and the PNP-Maritime Group of Nasugbu led the search and rescue operations.
