The Philippine Coast Guard rescued on Thursday two individuals that were stranded in the waters about two nautical miles (3.7 kilometers) from Puerto Princesa Port.

According to Coast Guard Station Central Palawan, a search and rescue operation was launched after receiving a distress call about motor yacht Amira.

Rescued were New Zealand citizen Alan John Lowry, 68, and Filipino Andrea De Ocampo, 23. Both of them were safe and had no injuries.

There was also no damage to the boat.

“Mr. Lowry explained that their vessel had run into bad weather and fuel shortages after departing from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, en route to Palawan,” the PCG said.

Their yacht was escorted back to Puerto Princesa Anchorage after it was refueled, the Coast Guard said. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
