MANILA, Philippines — Thailand has expressed readiness to conclude a labor agreement with the Philippines.

During a courtesy call by Ambassador Millicent Cruz Paredes, Thai Minister of Labor Phiphat Ratchakitprakar said his country is committed to working more closely with the Philippines towards the conclusion of a labor cooperation agreement.

Phiphat acknowledged the Philippines’ efforts in initiating and proposing a draft labor agreement that has been in the works for several years, toward the protection and promotion of the welfare of Filipino migrant workers in Thailand.

The minister also revealed Thailand’s interest in pursuing technical cooperation and sharing of best practices to strengthen the support networks between the two countries and their peoples.

The embassy in Bangkok said the development has reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and close ties between the Philippines and Thailand as the two nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relationship this year.

The Thai official acknowledged the valuable contribution of Filipinos to Thailand’s nation-building, especially in the education and hospitality sectors, which employ many Filipinos.

Paredes expressed her gratitude to Thailand for hosting and taking care of Filipinos who not only gained employment but also made Thailand their second home.
