Former Bureau of Immigration (BI) chief Atty. Norman Tansingco thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the ‘opportunity’ to serve under the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas,” days after he was ousted from his post attributed to the escape of ex-town chief Alice Guo.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 11, Tansingco acknowledged the ‘herculean task’ of running the agency, to which he held for almost two years.

“Right at the get go, it has been a focused yet challenging effort to address the various concerns confronting the BI,” he said.

Though he admits that work for the agency’s reforms is not finished, he noted that they were able to make progress during his term.

Tansingco also expressed his gratitude to fellow Immigration commissioners, as well as the Department of Justice, for creating measures that enacted the agency’s reforms.

“You must continue to work solely for the interest of the public, over and above other interests,” he reminded BI personnel.

News about Tansingco’s dismissal was first shared by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla in a recent Senate hearing, confirmed by PCO Secretary Cesar Chavez on the same day.
