MANILA, Philippines — Intensifying into a severe tropical storm, “Bebinca” (international name) is predicted to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday night as a typhoon, the state-run weather agency said on Thursday.

Estimated some 1, 975 kilometers east of Central Luzon, the trough of the severe tropical storm is affecting particularly the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas, weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

“Severe Tropical Storm Bebinca is expected to further intensify while moving north-west before it enters the PAR region probably on Friday night,” Estareja said.

“Bebinca is expected to develop into a typhoon while still outside PAR and once inside, it would be named “Ferdie,” the 6th storm to hit the country this year, the Pagasa forecaster said.

Meanwhile, Bebinca has been enhancing the southwest monsoon or”habagat” and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.

The same enhanced weather system is also affecting the rest of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) where isolated rain showers or thunderstorms would be likely.

On one hand, the localized thunderstorms are bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, the state weather bureau said.
