Do you still remember the pack of dogs in Talisay City, Cebu suspected of attacking their “hooman?”
Spike and his four friends went viral online in September 2023 after their master, 63-year-old George Mayol, was found dead inside an outhouse at a compound where they lived.
Spike and Friends were suspected of attacking their master because of torn parts of Mayol’s shirt and shorts.
Mayol’s body was found in a state of decomposition on September 28, 2023 inside the comfort room.
To recall, responders had to chase and snag the five dogs with a net at the compound for supposed security concerns and turned them over to the city veterinarian as residents started expressing fear over their possible ravenous condition that could have led to the alleged attack.
However, it was later learned that Mayol died from natural cause.
Thanks to a cynophile, or a person who has great love of dogs, Spike and Friends have been taken for adoption and found a new home in Carcar City, south Cebu.
Their new “hooman,” Alexa Yna, has taken care of them in an animal rescue shelter she mounted in Barangay Can-asujan, Carcar City.
On the first death anniversary of Mayol, Alexa took Spike to pay his “hoodad” a visit at the cemetery in Talisay City. Alexa said that the visit to Mayol’s tomb is a promise she made to Spike, with a deep understanding that dogs, too, do miss their master.
Alexa said that Spike and Friends, along with several other rescued dogs, go to a nearby stream to take their regular bath and play. But that there has never been an incident that the dogs attacked a human being.
Alexa hopes that Spike’s and his friends’ story would encourage more people to treat dogs humanely. Dogs will always be man’s best friend. —GMA Regional TV News
