Some roofs flew and some trees fell in Batanes due to the strong winds and rainfall brought by Typhoon Julian.

In Ivan Mayrina’s Monday report on 24 Oras, roofing material could be seen flying until it hit a tree in Sabtang, while in Uyugan, emergency vehicles were stuck in muddy floodwaters.

(The winds are so strong it’s like we’re being hit b y an earthquake. A lot of houses are damaged. Meanwhile, the people are in evacuation centers. The areas badly hit by the typhoon are Uyugan, Sabtang and Ivana. The problem is Julian is taking so long. It has been raining since last night. This is one of the strongest storms to hit Batanes.)

Some power and communication lines were also not working.

The onslaught of Typhoon Julian were also felt in Cagayan, where some rice fields and schools are submerged.

In Buguis, Benguet, a landslide made travel difficult, while in Bauko, Mountain Province, a felled tree blocked the road.

Some areas in Mountain Province also have no power as some utility poles have fallen. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
