MANILA, Philippines — Warner Bros. Pictures finally released a teaser trailer for its upcoming “A Minecraft Movie,” based on the popular video game, starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black.

The teaser begins with a singular block that transitions into the world of Minecraft, which has Momoa’s Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks’ Dawn, “Wednesday” star Emma Myers’ Natalie, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen’s Henry in awe.

A pink square sheep bleats at the four characters, eliciting a reaction from Dawn, who exclaims “What the hell?!”

More square-like features show throughout the teaser, culminating in the arrival of Black’s character from a burst of flames, introducing himself as Steve.

“Okay…” says Garret, while Natalie sighs, “This guys is such a toolbag,” right before the title card hits.

The teaser ends with a square llama standing still as piglins run past it before continuing to chew grass.

“Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival!” goes the film’s synopsis.

The four characters and expert crafter Steve will have to master the bizarre, cubic Overworld, which will challenge them “to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jared Hess, who directed Black in “Nacho Libre,” directed the movie on a script by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. Momoa serves as one of the film’s producers.

“Minecraft,” which debuted in 2011, is a popular sandbox game that allows users to create worlds with three-dimensional blocks.

It is currently the best-selling video game of all time with almost 140 million monthly users as of last year.

“A Minecraft Movie” premieres in Philippine cinemas on April 2, 2025, right after April Fool’s Day. — Video from Warner Bros. Philippines’ YouTube channel
