Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday said he does not believe in dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s claim that she received death threats, citing her “contradictory” statement and actions.

“Umalis ka dahil may death threat pero bumalik ka at feel safe ka kaya, para sa akin, yun ay contradicting. Hindi ako naniniwala sa sinasabi niyang mayroon siyang death threat,” Gatchalian said in an interview at Super Radyo dzBB.

(You left the country because you received a death threat but now that you’re back, you feel safe. For me, that’s contradicting. I don’t believe her claims that she has a death threat.)

According to Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, Guo fled the country because she feared for her life.

“Kino-confirm ko po ang lahat ng sinabi ni Sec. at humingi ako ng tulong sa kanila at masaya ako na nakita ko sila and I feel safe po,” Guo later said as she confirmed Abalos’ statement.

(I confirmed the secretary’s statement and I am asking help from them. I am glad to see them and I feel safe.)

Stephen David, Guo’s legal counsel, said Guo did not personally receive the death threats as it was sent through her family and associates.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said it will probe into Guo’s alleged death threats for the dismissed mayor to face the cases filed against her in court.

Alice Guo was brought back to the Philippines last week after being deported from Indonesia where she was arrested.

A human trafficking complaint in relation to the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Bamban and a money laundering complaint were filed against Guo before the Department of Justice.
