A 2-year-old girl died after she was hit and ran over by a neighbor’s pick-up truck in Tondo, Manila.
According to Bea Pinlac’s report on “24 Oras,” Jayza was seen walking outside the house of her grandparents when she crossed the street in front of the vehicle.
Nahaharap ito sa kasong reckless imprudence resulting in homicide,” said Police major Philipp Ines, Manila Police District Spokesperson.
(The driver did not notice the child was in front of the vehicle. When he moved, he ran over the child. He is facing a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.)
Jayza was taken to the hospital by the driver but was later declared dead on arrival.
Alyza Najera, Jayza’s mother, said she was heartbroken that her daughter, who was considered a miracle baby of their family, is now gone. She said she just went out for a while to buy food.
(When I got back, he was lifeless. I admit I was also negligent because I left him, but I did not want that to happen. It’s not easy for them to just pay for his life with money. Mama will bring justice to what they did to my son.)
GMA Integrated News tried to get the suspect’s statement regarding the case, but he refused. He is now detained at the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit, the report added. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
