Parts of Bicol region are facing shortages in fuel supply due to the delayed deliveries of fuel trucks that were stuck in traffic at the boundary of Albay and Camarines Sur.

According to Chino Gaston’s report in 24 Oras on Tuesday, motorists in Albay and in Sorsogon are having a difficult time finding sources of fuel.

Residents rushed to a gasoline station in Legazpi City, Albay after they found out that it had fuel stocks.

“Ang hirap maghanap ng gas, ngayon ko lang nakita na meron dito,” a tricycle driver said.

(It’s hard to look for gas right now. I think this is the first time that this gas station had a supply.)

Other gasoline stations in the town, meanwhile, are still closed due to a supply shortage.

While there is gasoline available in Bulan, Sorsogon, they are only limited to P200 per vehicle to accommodate as many motorists as possible.

The Albay provincial government and the Department of Trade and Industry already discussed measures that would prevent possible hoarding of fuel and other commodities.

Meanwhile, the Department of Energy said its fuel caravan has already arrived in Naga City and other parts of Bicolandia.

“76% sa ating mga gasolinahan sa Bicol ay operational – 180 of 236 outlets. Siyempre yung natitirang 24% ay tututukan natin kung safe na ito uli mag-operate at kung yung kanilang produkto ay hindi contaminated,” said Energy Usec. Felix Fuentabella.

(76% of our gasoline stations in Bicol are operational – 180 out of 236 outlets. We are currently monitoring the remaining 24% if they are already safe to operate again and if their products are not contaminated.)

Coastal roads still being cleared

Meanwhile, roads along coastal areas from Oas to Libon in Albay have not yet been totally cleared after the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

Operations are ongoing to clear roads that are still strewn with fallen electric posts, toppled trees and debris.

There are still residents staying in evacuation centers in Albay, including over 2,500 persons from Jovellar who were displaced by Kristine.

Following Kristine, Albay is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 amid  Typhoon Leon. But the report said that there are no longer areas in the province that are submerged in flood waters.
