MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has named executive vice president Voltaire Agas as the officer-in-charge of state-run pension fund Social Security System (SSS).

In a statement, SSS said a memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin effectively designated Agas as interim president and CEO of SSS.

The move is aimed at ensuring the “continuous and effective delivery of public service to SSS members, pensioners and their beneficiaries.”

This came just roughly two weeks after the Social Security Commission (SSC), the highest policy making body of the pension fund, appointed Robert Joseph De Claro as OIC.

De Claro, on the other hand, will remain a member of the SSC as a representative of the Employers’ Group.

The change in SSS leadership happened at the onset of October after Rolando Macasaet tendered his resignation as he filed his certificate of nomination and acceptance as nominee of the SSS-GSIS Pensyonado partylist.

Before his new role, the OIC SSS chief served as executive vice president for the branch operations sector.

Agas started his career at the SSS in 2012 as its chief legal counsel, a position he held for 10 years.

In March 2022, he began overseeing all SSS branch operation activities nationwide including membership expansion programs, contribution collections and benefit processing.

Agas has over 30 years of government service in various capacities such as in the Public Attorney’s Office and National Prosecution Service, as well as a trial judge in Quezon City.

Agas also served as a socio-economist in community development projects under the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

In the private sector, Agas served as a corporate legal manager and chief compliance and governance officer at the BPI AIA Life Assurance Corp.

Agas obtained his law degree from San Beda University.
