After million streaming tunes like Take All the Love, Pagsamo, Isa Lang, Higa, Binhi and many others, there is not much that Arthur Nery still has to prove.
After about seven years in the music business, the kid from Cagayan de Oro has become a successful singer and songwriter. He is also the kind of hitmaker who makes coffers jingle merrily with all the streams and downloads of his tunes that his fans cannot seem to have enough of.
But Arthur still wants to prove that there is more to himself than those or of being one of today’s popular Harana Boys. So, he will treat the fans who will watch his “Arthur Nery” concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Oct. 25, not just to watching him sing his hits live but to the chance to discover what Arthur has been keeping under wraps all this time.
This is like, surprise! Arthur is also a crooner with a touch of jazz. Think Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé and songs like Home or Feeling Good. Music like that was what Arthur grew up listening to as a kid. He heard his father sing those songs and they became his early exposure to music.
Truth to tell, the very first time he sang during a family gathering as a little boy, it was with a standard song that he learned from his father. It will surely be quite a discovery to watch Arthur become a crooner on the Big Dome stage.
As a songwriter, Arthur takes his hat off to the Filipino composers who inspired him to come up with his own compositions and start thinking of a career in music. These are the songs he gravitated to after the standards and he will forever be grateful to those artists who helped him learn the ropes.
Among them are the masters like Rey Valera for Maging Sino Ka Man, Jay Durias of South Border for Kahit Kailan and even that iconic duo of Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon of VST&Co. for the likes of Ipagpatawad Mo. There will surely be lots of kilig moments when Arthur gets into singing such romantic songs during his show.
Then, while he may have been a bit reclusive these past months, Arthur has no plan to leave the entertainment business. He had in fact, spent his time away from the limelight writing new music for his next album, which he later also helped arrange and produce. And these songs, he will perform at the Araneta.
So, alongside the cuts from his debut, the phenomenal Letters Never Sent from five years ago, “Arthur Nery,” the concert will feature his latest works included in his second album titled II: The Second.
The first single Segundo, Sigurado dropped six months ago. It is the usual Arthur tune but with a bolder R&B direction highlighted by the use of a Japanese koto. This seems to be the trend he put forth in his latest works. Go for the old Harana Boy style but throw in some new touches. And this must be why Get Going featuring Jon Mejia has Arthur getting all jazzed up.
The other cuts are Na Naman, I Gotchu, Di Nakakasawa featuring Kiyo, Lullaby featuring Joliannie, O Ninanais, Nasa ‘king Damdamin, Foolish and what I believe would be a huge hit given the fact that Arthur fans enjoy wallowing in heartbreak, Paalam Lang ang Palagi. (Ouch!)
It will be the first time that Arthur is singing these songs live, so be prepared for a lot of new surprising sounds he will surely dish out. Oh yes, plus lots of surprise guests, too.
