Over the years the local audience has seen Bianca Umali’s transform from the sweet and bubbly teen star to a classic-beauty leading lady. In this transition, many pageant aficionados have also noticed how her same set of qualities — fierce face, tan skin, lean frame, strong stage presence — can make her the perfect representative of this pageant-crazy nation in the world of pagenatry.
But what arguably makes her standout among many showbiz beauties is her public speaking skills. The 24-year-old has the ability to eloquently talk about the many causes she supports including breast cancer awareness, children’s rights and environmental protection among others. So, at the sidelines of her contract signing as the newest ambassador of Filipino skincare brand Pina — which prides itself as the pioneer in locally made Filipino soap infused with watermelon — The Manila Times could not help but ask Umali if she has ever considered taking a shot at beauty pageants. “I’ve been told about it and I’m flattered whenever people say that [I can be a beauty queen] but right now it’s a no,” she graciously answered.”I don’t think it’s my calling, or maybe not as of the moment,” she added. To be sure, Umali need wait for a title to use her growing platform to talk about her advocacies. One of them is loving the natural Filipina skin which aligns with her newest partnership with Pina.”People tend to have standards especially [for us] as public figures, and especially in this generation. Society tries to put you into a mold of what they think what you should look like but I want to stay true to how God made me. I’m happy that people appreciate that effort — to look proud of what I naturally look like. Ang sarap ipag malaki na isa kang Pilipina. (It’s so fulfilling to proudly say that you are a Filipina).”Having heard what Umali said, Pina executives could not help but be proud of their choice as their new endorser fits their vision.”Kanya na ang korona [she can have the crown,” Pina Skincare Philippines Chief Financial Officer Emmanuel Cuevas said after hearing Umali, adding, “We truly believe that Bianca embodies the true essence of a Filipina.”Umali revealed that this self love was encouraged by her grandmother who raised her to live simply.”She really taught us to appreciate what we have and vale the things around us for how they really are. Growing up I would see how she fixes her self and carry herself with pride amid simplicity as if saying, ‘I am proud to be a Filipina’ and I think I carried that with me.”With this mindset, agreeing to work with Pina was an easy yes according to the actress. In her new role, she will represent Pina’s new line of body products.”When we first met, I tried the lotion immediately and told them how I like that it’s not sticky. You really won’t feel the weight of the product. I also have to commend the quality of the product and how it’s so affordable for what it can give you.”Umali also said Pina aligns with her no-fuss skincare routine.”Honestly, I am not a fan of many skincare steps and expensive products. Of course, I’m still mindful of the budget that’s why I like Pina.”In closing, Umali said that with products like Pina, “Hindi intimidating ang maging isang magandang Filipina (Being a beautiful Filipina is not intimidating).”
