A BIKER from the homegrown motorcycle taxi (MC taxi) company Angkas has achieved financial milestones that highlighted the potential of the platform to uplift informal workers.

Alfredo Javier, 42, recently celebrated fully paying off his P1 million multipurpose vehicle and enrolling his three children in private institutions for their high school and college education — achievements he attributes to his five years in Angkas.

“In my five years with Angkas, I was able to save up for an Xpander. I was also able to send the three kids to private schools,” Javier said in Filipino, describing his journey with the MC taxi company as transformative for his family.

Javier’s success story reflected the impact of the Angkas system, which provided job opportunities and government benefits to its fleet, supporting financial stability and formally including bikers in the economy.

Angkas Chief Executive Officer George Royeca praised Javier’s dedication in a Facebook post, stating in a mix of English and Filipino, “You are proof of the fruits of your labor with Angkas, Alfred. Hard work and dedication truly bear fruit. Congratulations to you. We are very proud of you. Carry on with prosperity.”

Royeca, a pioneer of this model for economic mobility, recently announced his congressional candicacy with the Angkasangga party-list, aiming to expand the Angkas platform’s benefits to other informal workers in the Philippines.

This move could extend similar opportunities to those outside the Angkas network, offering a pathway to the same achievements Javier and others have reached.

Javier expressed his gratitude to Royeca and Angkas, and voiced support for Angkasangga’s political bid, which could impact millions of Filipino informal workers such as himself.

“God bless Angkasangga. The party-list and its congressional candidate, George Royeca, are No. 1. I hope you are able to help even more people such as myself,” Javier added in Filipino.

Angkasangga was assigned the number 107 on the ballot for the 2025 elections.
