Cibac (Citizen’s Battle Against Corruption) Party-list on Tuesday filed its certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) for reelection in the 2025 polls.
Evangelist Eddie Villanueva, the party-list’s first nominee, said if reelected, he will remain opposed to proposed Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, or Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) Equality measure and divorce bill because these are against God’s will.
“Lahat ng oppose sa Diyos at gusto ni Satanas, i-oppose po natin. Mahal ng Diyos ang makasalanan. Pitong taon sa buhay ko hindi ako naniniwala sa Diyos. Pero galit ang Diyos sa kasalanan. Marami akong kaibigan na gay people, sinasabi nila sa akin against same-sex marriage sila,” said Villanueva, leader of the Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide.
(I will oppose those measures that Satan favors. God loves the sinners. I did not believe in God for seven years, but God is against sins. I have a lot of gay friends and they are against same sex marriage.)
However, there is no pending legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in the country.
”Ayaw ko itulak sila sa dagat-dagat ng apoy na impyerno. Kaya, yung divorce, meron namang legal separation, meron namang nullification of marriage, meron namang annulment of marriage,” Villanueva, father of Senator Joel Villanueva, added.
(I don’t want to push them to the fires of hell. There’s legal separation, nullification, annulment of marriage.)
Divorce and women’s rights advocates, however, have pointed out loopholes in the existing legal remedies for abusive marriages.
No dynasty
Villanueva also said he supports the bill banning political dynasty among elected officials but argued that banning members of the same family to run for public office is an injustice.
”Dynasty means grandfather, grandmother, children, grandchildren…they all control political, economic power in an area. That is what political dynasty means. Ngayon, [kung] isa kang pamilya. Meron kang limang anak. Lahat ang anak mo, nagmamahal sa Diyos. Nagmamahal sa bayan. Kaya isa lang ang pwedeng maglingkod. Yung iba, bahala na kayo. Unfair naman yun,” he said.
(If you have a family and you have five children, and they all love God, they love the country. And you are going to limit the public official to one family member? That’s unfair.)
“Dapat genuine democracy umiral sa ating bansa (Genuine democracy should prevail in the country),” he added.
