The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) on Wednesday outlined a comprehensive set of recommendations to address key challenges facing the Philippines including food security, human resource development and investment generation.
It said to enhance food security, a multi-faceted approach that includes establishing a technology task force, supporting cooperatives and investing in logistics infrastructure would improve market access and ensure a stable food supply.
“We also call for amendments to the Agrarian Reform Law to increase land retention limits and encourage more concentrated farming businesses,” said Philippine Business Conference and Expo (PBC&E) 2024 overall chairman Jude Aguilar.
The PCCI said to address human resource development, the government should reform the education system, establish R&D centers, upskill and reskill the workforce and promote health and wellness.
The PCCI proposed involving private sector stakeholders in policy development and conducting regulatory impact assessments; streamlining business processes through digitalization initiatives; passing investment-friendly legislation; and creating a comprehensive investment guide to create a more conducive environment for investment generation and job creation.
The group stressed support for local producers through capacity-building initiatives; and implementing a comprehensive master plan for infrastructure development, investing in rural infrastructure and reducing the cost of power.
The 2024 resolutions will be submitted for consideration by the President. The PBC&E is an annual meeting organized by the PCCI.
