British-born David Charlton, founder of David’s Salon, which has over 200 stores in the Philippines, died on Tuesday. He was 69 years old.

“The whole family of David’s Salon mourns the passing of our founder. His love and generosity will forever be remembered,” the Salon’s Facebook page wrote on Tuesday night.

Makeup brand L’Oréal Professionnel also mourned Charlton’s passing.

“We pay tribute to David Charlton, the visionary founder of David’s Salon. His legacy of creativity, dedication, and unparalleled service will continue to inspire us. He will be deeply missed,” the makeup brand wrote on Tuesday night.

A former colleague, who helped him build new salon branches across the country, also paid tribute to the late Charlton on their Facebook pages.

“I’ve built and renovated over 80 branches of David’s Salon nationwide. Mr. David, you are so kind to us all, especially to your staff. You greet them good morning even before they can greet you. I am proud to be part of your expansion. I remember when we opened the SM Davao branch, they thought I was your brother or even your son. Wherever you are, a big thanks Mr. David Charlton,” wrote Joeyboy Carlos on Facebook.

The salon will open public viewing for Charlton at The Chapels Heritage Park in Taguig City, where it starts at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and the final mass at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 3.

Charlton was born in 1955 in Sunderland in the United Kingdom. According to the David’s Salon official website, he was exposed to hairdressing at a very early age.

He moved from Britain to the Philippines in 1978 and was a manager at the Rever Salon at the former Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Makati City.

David’s Salon began in 1989, with its first branch in Cubao, Quezon City, and has since opened over 200 branches in the Philippines and even in the Middle East and the United States.

Charlton is survived by his daughter, Laura, who is the creative director of David’s Salon.
