THE Philippine eagle is the pride of our country. Epitomizing the tenacity and resilience of the Filipinos in overcoming the odds to achieve their aspirations amidst all the adversities, it was declared the national bird of the Philippines by virtue of Proclamation 615 signed by president Fidel V. Ramos on July 4, 1995.
Aside from being one of the largest eagles in the world, the Philippine eagle is also arguably one of the most attractive. Unfortunately, this majestic bird of prey is also one of the most endangered birds in the world, with an estimated population of fewer than 392 pairs.
