MANILA, Philippines — The deployment of Filipino caregivers to South Korea is now under review, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac said they are assessing the six-month pilot program for the deployment of Filipino caregivers in South Korea after two Filipino caregivers left their jobs during the first month of their employment.

Cacdac said that in coordination with the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor, the DMW will address issues and concerns that arose during the initial phase of the program for Filipino caregivers.

“It’s a pilot program and we expect certain challenges, issues and problems along the way, which are now being carefully addressed by both sides,” Cacdac said.

He said the DMW is equipped to address those issues since the Philippines has been implementing an Employment Permit System for the past 20 years.

The absence and suspected desertion of two Filipino caregivers are isolated cases, he said.

The first batch of 100 Filipino caregivers under the government-to-government arrangement was deployed to Korea in August.
