THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) deployed motorist assistance teams for All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan on Thursday said the department’s “Lakbay Alalay” program was in place to provide prompt and reliable roadside assistance to motorists.
“All DPWH department heads, and regional and district engineering offices have already deployed assistance teams composed of an anchorman from the regional and district/city offices and mechanics ready with equipment and service vehicles on standby at strategic locations ready to assist travelers,” he said.
The department’s roadside assistance started on Oct. 31 and will last until 5 p.m. of Nov. 2.
“Our teams will be working on a round-the-clock shift to provide emergency assistance to travelers and ensure major thoroughfares are well maintained and free from obstruction and potholes,” Bonoan said.
Stations manned by uniformed personnel with equipment are ready to provide emergency services to motorists and the traveling public.
DPWH Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide were instructed to conduct routine maintenance along national roads, especially routes leading to cemeteries and churches.
DPWH maintenance teams will ensure that national highways, especially those leading to cemeteries, are cleared of potholes and obstructions, including illegally parked vehicles and vendors, and equipped with proper lighting and warning signs.
The department will also coordinate with other government entities, such as Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, and local government units, for any required assistance.
DPWH project engineers will coordinate with contractors and other concerned offices for the scheduling of ongoing road projects and the installation of necessary traffic advisory.
“We are hoping that through our Lakbay Alalay teams, we can help everyone get the chance to visit memorial cemeteries, columbaria, including churches, and commemorate memories of their dearly departed safe and free from any inconvenience,” said Bonoan.
