THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said community-driven programs such as Kapitbisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) were crucial to poverty alleviation.

“Kalahi-CIDSS strives for sustainability and institutionalization, as many individuals still need assistance,” Kalahi-CIDSS National Program Manager Bernadette Mapue-Joaquin said on Friday.

She added the program needs legislative backing and assistance from local government units to expand its scope.

Mapue-Joaquin said community-driven development strategies should be institutionalized for their efficacy in identifying poverty reduction concerns and making educated decisions.

The DSWD has given essential social services to almost 23 million poor, vulnerable, disadvantaged and geographically isolated families through Kalahi-CIDSS.
