Former defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana and ex presidential adviser for Northern Luzon Raul Lambino on Monday formalized their candidacies for senator in the 2025 Midterm Elections.
Their certificates of candidacy were filed by their respective representatives on Day 7 of filing before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Lorenzana is an independent candidate while Lambino is running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP-Laban).
A retired Philippine Army general, Lorenzana was appointed defense secretary in 2016 during the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
In 2022, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. named Lorenzana as chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). He was then replaced by retired general Thompson Lantion this year.
Meanwhile, Lambino was the presidential adviser for Northern Luzon, and the administrator and chief executive officer of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority also during the Duterte administration.
He also served as lawyer and spokesperson of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo when she was detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.
Lambino is also an advocate of the revision of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
