GLOBE Telecom Inc. (Globe) has put up four new telecommunications towers in Zamboanga City and expanded 111 cell sites to enhance its network infrastructure.
The move will support the local agri-tech and tourism industries through reliable and fast connectivity and enable farmers to access agri-tech solutions that will optimize their operations, the telco said on Sunday.
Tourists will also be able to share their experiences in real time, boosting the southern city’s appeal as a travel destination, it added.
“Our investment in Zamboanga City reflects our commitment to empowering communities through technology,” Globe Senior Vice President Joel Agustin said.
“By enhancing connectivity, we aim to drive economic growth, support local industries, and improve quality of life for residents,” he added.
“Overall, we believe that digital transformation is key to unlocking the full potential of Zamboanga City and fostering a sustainable future.”
Globe said that its network upgrades would also contribute to disaster preparedness initiatives led by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as enhanced telecom infrastructure ensures continuous communication during emergencies and is crucial for crisis management and public safety.
Improved connectivity will also strengthen economic resilience, encourage innovation, and facilitate access to government services, it added.
Globe has been enhancing its connectivity network in the past few months, having recently activated new towers in Cebu in the central Philippines.
The telco said that its continued investment in Zamboanga City’s network infrastructure underscored its dedication to bridging the digital divide and supporting the region’s economic and social development, while also targeting to bring online connectivity to every corner of the country.
Globe shares closed up 1.26 percent to P2,420 apiece on Friday.
