Globe Telecom said Monday it expects strong sales of the newest iPhone model in the Philippines, driven by increasing demand among Filipino consumers.
“We are very happy with the turnout of our pre-order. Every year, we do see the demand keeps on growing,” said Eric Tanbauco, head of Globe’s consumer mobile business, told reporters.
Apple launched the new iPhone 16 series in the Philippines at midnight of Oct. 18, 2024, with hundreds of customers lining up to become eligible for discounted prices.
Aside from those who lined up at physical stores last week, telecom companies said their stores received pre-order for the latest models.
“Last year, we actually expanded our pre-order locations to 10 stores. Now, it’s actually open to 13 stores across the entire country. This really shows the strong demand and thrust Filipinos have in Globe as we bring the latest iPhone to the Philippines,” he added.
Tanbauco said Globe was also the first telco to launch the iPhone series in the Philippines in 2008.
“We are excited to roll out exclusive and innovative offers to make the iPhone more accessible to our Globe customers, including the All-New GPlan PLUS with flexible payment terms, exclusive voucher discounts, trade-in options and lifestyle perks via Globe Rewards. There’s no better way to get your new iPhone than with Globe,” Tanbauco said.
Globe also announced that it teamed up with CompAsia, a leading tech e-store, to allow both new and recontracting Globe postpaid customers to exchange their old devices for cashback. The program covers devices such as iPhones, Samsung and Huawei mobile devices.
The program is a part of Globe’s advocacy for device circularity to minimize e-waste, in line with its net zero commitments.
“We are proud of our enduring partnership with Globe for a device circularity program that minimizes e-waste and its impact on the planet,” said Henry Ng, associate director for group buyback and trade-in of CompAsia.
“Through our partnership, we implement a trade-in program that offers a sustainable solution by giving your old iPhones a new lease on life. Instead of discarding your device, trade it in and receive cashback when you get the new iPhone 16 to offset your Globe Postpaid bill. It’s a win-win situation: you get valuable savings, and we ensure your device is responsibly recycled or repurposed, reducing environmental harm and promoting a circular economy,” he said. Darwin G. Trade-ins give new life to old phones that would have been shelved or discarded, and using refurbished phones have an 87-percent lower climate impact than new devices, according to the GSMA.
